What a token actually is
A token is the unit AI models use to read and write. Text is split into tokens, roughly a few characters each, and everything Muse reads, reasons about and replies with is counted in tokens. A short chat question might use a few hundred tokens. An agent task uses far more, because Muse reads web pages, emails, documents and tool results along the way, and every one of those steps adds tokens. That is why allowances are discussed in millions: agent work is genuinely token-hungry.
This matters when you plan heavy jobs. A month of email receipts, a long document or a bulk task like processing dozens of opt-outs will use much more than asking a question. The practical habit from the stories in this directory is to start with a small version of a big job, check the result, then let it run at full size.
Your allowance: check the app, not a blog post
Plans and allowances change, and this site will not print tier numbers it cannot verify. The reliable source is your own account: open Muse, go to Settings, and check your current plan and token allowance there. That screen is the ground truth for what you have, what a referral added, and when anything resets.
About the offer on this site: the banner at the top of Use of Muse carries the site owner's referral code, HXUTHV. As stated on this site, redeeming the code in Settings within 48 hours of joining at muse.ai/join gets you 1 billion Muse tokens. Disclosure: this is the site owner's referral code, and if you join with it, the owner may earn Muse tokens. Whether to use it is entirely up to you; the directory works the same either way.
Making tokens go further
Three habits stretch an allowance. Be specific in the first message, because re-dos cost more than one good brief. Batch related errands into one session so Muse loads your context once. And save big open-ended research for when you actually need the answer, since browsing-heavy tasks are the most token-intensive work an agent does. The examples below show the range of jobs people in this directory considered worth the tokens.
